It was successfully launched in 2015. The multispectral instruments on Sentinel-2A satellite can provide 10 meter resolution multispectral images covering the globe (from 83 degrees north latitude to 56 degrees south latitude) every 10 days.Sentinel 2 consists of two satellites, which are used to support vegetation, land cover and environmental monitoring. Sentinel-2 multispectral instrument collected 13 spectral bands from visible light and near infrared to short wave infrared (SWIR) along the 290km track. The 10m resolution has four wave bands: blue (490nm), green (560nm), red (665nm) and near-infrared (842nm). There are 6 wavebands and 4 narrow wavebands for vegetation characterization (705 nm, 740 nm, 783 nm and 865 nm) with a 20 meter resolution, and 2 large SWIR wavebands (1610 nm and 2190 nm) for snow/ice/cloud detection or vegetation humidity stress assessment and other applications. The 60m resolution has three wavebands, which are mainly used for cloud shielding and atmospheric correction (443nm for aerosols, 945nm for water vapor, and 1375nm for cirrus detection).
